| Welcome Ed.

| Hi Ed,
I am Anne-Miek van Citters, and we own a female BdB who has just had her first litter. One of our puppies will go to Arjan & Rosanne van den Wassenberg, son and daughter in law of Tenor's owners, father of our puppies. We have had Ulotte since 2003 and really love her. We participate in field trails because there are not so many possibilities to go hunting in The Netherlands (being a small country with a lot of people). Ulotte doesn't mind as long as she can get to work! And she is performing very well. Our litter of 7 was born on December 19, 2005 and all the puppies are doing very well. Our only problem is that in The Netherlands tail docking is not allowed. Both we and the owners of Tenor were told when we bought our dogs in France that they were natural short tail dogs. 6 out of 7 puppies were born with a long tail though, not really according to the statistics. As far as we are concerned there is more to a Bourbonnais than a tail (or lack of it). The puppies are complying to all the other breedingstandards, in character and exterior.
So our advise to you is if you are planning a litter with your dog to be certain of the 'tail-status' of your dog. Hopefully the standard (which will be ajusted in Mai this year) will include the fact that there are quite a few BdB's with long tails (docked). Because in most European countries docked dogs are no longer allowed to participate in expositions and trails.
kind regards, Anne-Miek van Citters (the Netherlands) |
